Scrolling through my camera roll looking for a cool mouse I saw on a rack somewhere (the clicky kind, not the “eats all my cheese”-kind [related: I have no cheese]), having to get past all the UK shots, which I plan on doing a post about before too long, and . . . found this, from maybe three weeks ago, the Bay Area Book Festival, where one of the members of my dissertation committee from nearly thirty years ago showed up in the signing line! Carol Barker! So thrilled to see her again. Without her, who knows if I’m here:

Delighted to see this reunion! Just checked my copy of your dissertation “Glory Dog: A Plainsong” and, sure enough, there’s Carol’s signature at the front as a member of your dissertation panel.
oh, nice. yeah, she turned me onto . . . man: onto all of it, really, from Vizenor to Ray Young Bear and on and on and more.
also on the signature page should be Anthony Paredes, Ralph Berry, Janet Burroway . . . and, maybe Sheila Ortiz-Taylor? Virgil Suarez could be there as well, though he had to dive off right at the end.
Yeah, the signature page includes Janet Burroway, J. Anthony Paredes, Carol Bakter, Ralph Berry, Virgil Suarez, and approved by Helen Burke, Assistant Chair, Department of English.
