ECCC

Back in 2020, I was supposed to have been here for Good Indians, but . . . you know: all the conventions were canceled. Thrilled to finally be here. It’s a very well-run con. Can’t imagine I’m not back at some point. Thanks to Third Place Books for selling the books, and running the signing line, and thanks to Nightfire for arranging all this for Night of the Mannequins. Again, frightfully few pics by me, but, snagged a few from other folk:

Two of the kindest, most talented folks you’ll ever meet, right here. 🩷 🖤@chucktingle.bsky.social and @sgj.bsky.social

I saw a couple more from/about this spotlight (on Tingle), but I somehow let them slide past, so they’re in the ether now, forever ungettable-by-me. Guess if I were on IG, I’d be seeing all the stuff, but: you know. Anyway, when/if some of the other panel I was on show up, I’ll sneak them in here (was with Caitlin Starling, Catriona Ward, Bethany C. Morrow). Also had a lot of pics taken in the signing line, but who knows where they went. However? Thanks to Nightfire, got some more of Chuck and me (right before we started, I snuck behind the screen, put this cool Love is Real shirt on). Check his shoes!

And, since I’m now an ace photographer myself, I even snapped a pic or two, out and about. First, a cool red sort-of-stone (okay: cast resin?) knife:

(not pictured: the completely licensed Manimal DVD I bought [you about definitely want to check out those opening credits])

And, some signage that makes a lot of sense:

And . . . and there was rain and cold and wet, and I ate at Chipotle three times, I believe, I somehow had no salmon (first time ever in Seattle to not eat salmon), had lunch with a family member I haven’t seen in a long time, and . . . and for some reason, I bought some Doc Marten’s. Or maybe “Dr. Marten’s?” And, is that possessive apostrophe really a part of it? And, while I’m and’ing: does “Marten” refer to the animal? Are these boots supposed to be like the marten, somehow? If so, cool, excellent, great, I’m game. Anyway, the boots are fairly comfortable. If I don’t wear my cowboy hat to Germany next week—doesn’t seem like a fun thing to manage on a long flight—I may even wear them there.

So, until next time: thanks, Seattle. Another good time. See you again in three weeks.

  1. Wait this reminds me of a joke…of sorts? from the National Park Service: did you know that if you hold a marten up to your ear, you can hear exactly what it’s like to be attacked by a marten?

Pretty sure the original was about an ermine, but, both weasel family.
