Another interview, this one over at Depraved Press, with Jesse Wichterman, who asks some good questions. Mostly we just talk about politics and the climate and religion, and what role Dee Snyder could play in all of them, in a just-slightly different reality. Or even in this one. Then of course, when Snyder isn’t the
So a while back, I started a list like this but it got all out of hand, yeah, turned into that House of Fiction thing, which was really just a version of this other post, I suppose. When all I really wanted was something short, to pin up by my monitor, help me keep it
That novel I started all the way back in . . . was it August? Finally tapped out those final words on it. According to my handy-dandy Word stats, it took me some 30133 minutes to do it, too. If I knew what to divide that by, or how to divide, I could figure something
Misjudged when Monk was coming on last night somehow, so had an hour to kill, and, yep, accidentally started writing a new novel. Bad thing too is that my new MSWord has this running wordcount on the bottom. First time I’ve had that in a few years, now. Anyway, current count, 4,097. And I’m really
[ whole lot of staples requiring a whole lot of pills. ACL & meniscus + some good old fashioned osteo-chondral drilling (ie, microfracture surgery). crutches and a wheelchair. all a grand conspiracy to keep me from hitting Pirates of the Caribbean 3 ]
Third installments of a franchise the audience is in love with are very difficult to pull off. Nobody says Alien3 or Return of the Jedi or the third Scream are their favorites of the series, right? Even Godfather III, as good as it might be, is overshadowed by the first two. Granted, by the third
I’m no expert, but this seems pretty cool to me: a reading I did a month or so ago, all cut up into little flash bits, with an interview too. Click the pic below to hit it, or the arrow-thing to listen. [audio:https://www.stephengrahamjones.com/wp-admin/excl/stephen_graham_jones_03-01-07.mp3] [ this is me listening to the intro, I think. or who
Just yesterday finished that Ledfeather novel I’ve been writing all the long way since January, and am two weeks late with already, or, ‘late,’ anyway, maybe even with double quotes there, and anyway, yeah, I love the hell out of it, can’t imagine I was even able to trap the thing on paper, but, too,
A few years ago one of my publishers was cool enough to send me up some forever elevator in New York to get a full day of some much-needed media training. Just in case. It was excellent, too; got to watch myself on a big screen over and over and over, and have every stupid
if anybody’s carrying a bag of groceries, it won’t have French bread in it nobody will flick playing cards into and around a trashcan or hat if the characters need to hack into somebody’s computer, the password will be unguessable if there’s some big and final showdown on a boat, then it won’t be finally
First, and this is important, get Vince Liaguno, the guy who knows slashers so well that he managed to somehow trap one on the page in The Literary Six, to have written just a supercool Demon Theory review over at Unspeakable Horror, then, moments after that, find out that Ellen Datlow, she who more than
Looks like Amazon has me having a hand in a couple of books I only wish I’d had a hand in: [ apologies for the ‘see more’ junk on those images — no time right now to dig for clean images ] Don’t guess I’ll be getting any checks for them, though. Anyway, just to
. . . you could never*say : No, please, no — my book would make a terrible movie. Actually, I never thought about if this book would outlive me or not. Well, I mean, that book’s obviously better than mine. That’s the only reason it’s on the best seller list. Of course I would only
[ the title and the whole piece here may not make much sense–it may not anyway–without cueing into TheValve.org, which, it looks like, may have the original Marcus article in PDF ] Just what is experimental fiction, then? The easiest definition for experimental or innovative or non-conventional fiction is fiction that, both at armslength and
So a while back a friend i was borrowing DVDs from asked what horror he might need to have a somewhat complete collection. I told him I’d pen him a list sooner or later. Only just now remembering this. And, yeah, two disclaimers before I even start here: 1) I’m surely forgetting as many as
The best place to hide from an axe-weilding maniac is with your back pressed up against a wooden door you’re pretty sure is both solid and impenetrable. This is because that maniac who’s after you, his first strike with the axe will nearly always be from two to six inches from the left side of
Been trying to figure out what scenes/images from horror movies have become so indelibly imprinted on pop-culture that even people who don’t watch horror kind of have to know them, or at least of them. Which is to say I can’t just pick the coolest or best horror clips–the ones that imprinted me once upon
First, as this is just all about the end of THE DESCENT, then, yep, it’s just chock full of spoilers. So stop here if: you’ve not seen it you’re going to see it and you don’t like to know how a thing’s going to end Not meaning to say THE DESCENT has a gimmick-ending or
Looks like, in pre-celebration for TURISTAS1, Demon Theory pulled two reviews this week: & [ click em to hit the rvws ] Cool places each, though the reviews are kind of opposites of each other. Anyway, it’s none other than Mike Bracken on the Toxic Universe one. Which, I mean — for my first novel,
hey, way down in that Halloweenie post I wrapped up by lamenting that there were no pics leftover of my shirt. Turns out it was a lie. There’s this one (click it to enlarge): The farthest-back person in the room’s my friend William J Cobb, and the frontmost is Jay McInerney. I’m in the middle
Showed up at the wrong bookstore Halloween night to do a DEMON THEORY signing — kind of awkward when you’re wearing a Jason mask, carrying a big fake knife — but finally found the right one, had a blast (notice all the LISEY’S STORYs behind me there, yeah?). Rented FEAST that night as well, though
Just a couple of quick links: Wooden Spoon’s posted a cool Demon Theory review In anticipation & celebration of Halloween, that fifth page of the Demon Theory quiz-thing‘s been very updated I just last night rung that 100-page bell on the novel I started a few days ago, which has a title still probably too
Just thinking about what I said in that last post, about how I don’t do reviews because I’m pretty sure I’d set my standards impossibly high, just so I could shoot down every book in my path. That may be a little too broad a statement, though — I don’t mean to suggest that all
Well, I mean, yeah, because he’s got titles like THE LUST LIZARD OF MELANCHOLY COVE and PRACTICAL DEMONKEEPING. These are what originally got me peeling his books up from the shelves back whenever ago. Years already, I guess. Too, though, I’ve yet to read a CMoore book that hasn’t made me smile, and then impressed
Editor Y: In today’s trend-oriented publishing climate, you need to either be the celebrity-of-the-moment or you need to have a bulletproof plan to plug into what’s hot, what’s guaranteed, what there’s already an audience for. And, sir/madam/etc., that you don’t already know my name from the tabloids should suggest that, while not infamous for killing
Of all the footnotes I cut from DEMON THEORY, there’s an OLIVER TWIST / ANIMAL HOUSE one that I maybe miss the most. There was this fun, ceramic-pig oriented Pynchon-one too though, I suppose, which scuttled through PLAYBOY and I forget all-where. And more and more. This, though, it’s one that I never actually put
if someone at a party gets some kind of news that makes them drop what they’re drinking, the glass won’t shatter if two people are fighting and one of them has a pistol, then that person with the pistol will win. Which is to say we won’t have to have that shot of the gun
So on the radio the other day I heard a song that took me right back to the second grade–The Gatlin Brothers’ “All the Gold in California.” Some excellent stuff. But it got me thinking about what all else I used to listen to about that time. Up until the fifth grade, anyway. I mean,
Just finished writing the novel I started the day that Cult workshop went over (21 June; really I finished Friday night, I suppose, just before Monk). It Came from Del Rio. Nothing but fun. Planned to go no more than 240 pages, and then just went 285, which is something of a record for me,
Finally rigged it up, here. It’s in Javascript, so hopefully your browser’s got that turned on. No cookies, though. And, the only possible glitch I can see, really, aside from not knowing the answers, is that if you’ve got your screen-resolution set too low, then things might get a little bit hinky. Which is the
