Killer/Babysitter Tour Digest

Right at the end of the first draft of a novel, so don’t have proper time/headspace to annotate all these, or find the rest of them (and, I only know BlueSky . . .). In short: couldn’t have been better. Travel all went smooth as could be, the crowds were great, the signing lines trailed into the horizon, many pens went dry, and, for the first time, got to wind the tour up on the reservation, on the shore of Lower Two Medicine, with friends. Thanks, all, for being there. Honored to be read by you—honor to meet you in an auditorium, a bookstore, a museum, across a table. Or, in some cases, on the street, randomly, which we’ll call fate, yes?

Boulder:

Great event last night for @sgj.bsky.social’s latest release, “Killer on the Road” and “The Babysitter Lives.” Stephen’s events always make for a fun evening!

Having a lovely time here in Albuquerque for @sgj.bsky.social’s KILLER ON THE ROAD tour stop! Also I didn’t know the different between “high desert” and whatever Las Vegas is. But it was just aggressively explained to me, after I said I thought it would be hotter here…

Miami

And, just realizing I didn’t run down any pics from the Florida event. Weird. Anyway, too late now. But, I did snap a few pics myself—me casing the venue the morning-of; what I was reading at Chipotle; a couple of trees I thought might be aliens; and some books I was signing:

not my hands / I was in workout clothes . . .

Albuquerque:

Man, I know I saw some snapshots of Rebecca Roanhorse and myself up at the front of the crowd, but . . . guess I forgot to save them. Oh well. This is better:

I was (not) a k*ller on the road and drove to New Mexico to attend an SGJ tour stop. Yes, I cried, hush 🤫 this event was awesome and the conversation, impeccable #sagasays #sagadouble #horrorsky #booksky@sgj.bsky.social @sagapressbooks.bsky.social

Also, pour pour une raison inconnue, @sgj.bsky.social’s nightmares are all in french right now 🤣

Lorin Elise (@paperbackbish.bsky.social) 2025-07-21T01:44:52.984Z

Got to have dinner with an old friend, too, but forgot to ask him if I could post pics of us. So, just imagine me, very happy with someone I can talk horror and books and movies and life with for hours and hours.

Shout out to the great @sgj.bsky.social, he did an awesome job co-hosting the screening of Silver Bullet last night with the amazing @ericvespe.bsky.social. Loved getting so share in my love of The Monster Squad with Eric, and my wife and I loved our short chat with Stephen.

Holy jumped-up bald headed Jesus palomino! Always so happy to see @sgj.bsky.social and @ericvespe.bsky.social together. It’s moments like these that make me feel lucky to live in Austin. Also, what an honor to witness the first Gary Busey screening at @austinfilm.bsky.social. Goodnight, Marty.

Seattle

Yeah, I might have gotten to the bookstore right when the event started, meaning I had to eat my Chipotle in front of all—Sadie was kind enough to carry the show for three or four minutes:

Slashercon underway in Seattle with Stephen Graham Jones @sgj.bsky.social

A fun author event 😊 started and finished painting this right before..😅 just in time to give to @sgj.bsky.social When I read his other books I saw my younger self/experiences in Jade. Those books are next. iniiyi’taki-Ainihkiwa #bookart #paintededges #sprayededges #buffalohunterhunter

Final result of #buffalohunterhunter that I painted for the Author event with @sgj.bsky.social to gift. Him talking about aunties hitting him upside the head made me laugh. Shared experience there 😂. #bookart #paintededges #sprayededges

Fab way to spend a Friday evening hearing & meeting @sgj.bsky.social & @sadiehartmann.bsky.social Listened to a favorite author, wore my favorite tee shirt, got signatures, and got a free copy of a book that was on my TBR! Coming home with more books than when you left is a fine feeling ❤️👻📚

Sometimes it's the candid shots that make a killer photo…Pun intended. Thanks, @sgj.bsky.social

Such a great time with good people and a lively conversation about maggots, SpongeBob, spider eggs, vaseline lollipops, final girls, basketball, and so much more. Celebrated Killer on the Road/The Babysitter Lives with @sgj.bsky.social @sagapressbooks.bsky.social

Sadie Hartmann (Mother Horror) (@sadiehartmann.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T13:45:15.608Z

It was a fun night! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your writing process.I had a wonderful time as well.

An absolutely epic time here in Seattle last night with @sgj.bsky.social, @sadiehartmann.bsky.social, and @thatnerdchick.bsky.social, all my favorite people 🧡💜💚🖤

Lorin Elise (@paperbackbish.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T14:49:39.942Z

Late to the posting party. Vaseline, maggots, Spongebob, oh my.Seattle loves @sgj.bsky.social Loved seeing @paperbackbish.bsky.social and @sadiehartmann.bsky.social in the wild.Video too, of Ghost Face, just… he's still asleep, or at least I wish I was.

Lauren Deschain (@thatnerdchick.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T16:01:55.718Z

Billy got his signiture!Ok, it took 4 of us to make this. Thanks @sadiehartmann.bsky.social for being the camera operator, @paperbackbish.bsky.social for potentially being a sacrifice. And @sgj.bsky.social for being down to do this scrappy, final (Maybe, prolly not) video in the series. 🎬🩸🔪

Lauren Deschain (@thatnerdchick.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T16:39:39.099Z

Thanks again @sgj.bsky.social for a great night. Sadie @sadiehartmann.bsky.social you were a fantastic host. Was not expecting to laugh so much. The gentrification story was hysterical.. & the fashion in this photo, clearly a red carpet night. Same time next year? @talkscaredpod.bsky.social

Mark Seattle (@markdob.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T17:05:43.650Z

So it was last night when I got to meet @sgj.bsky.social. (I love this photo because Stephen looks rightfully wary of me). I was so nervous I talked about the thing I told myself I wouldn't (my dad growing up on a reservation) and forgot to ask the questions I meant to ask.

Tac Anderson (@tacanderson.bsky.social) 2025-07-26T16:56:15.636Z

Some amazing gifts from this stop, too—so thankful:

Oh, too: first Blackfeet through the line said she never runs into other Blackfeet in Seattle. And, then? Two MORE Blackfeet came through the line. But it was too late to get them all knowing each other . . .

(and, on the way across to the reservation, I stopped in Kalispell’s B&N, signed up what they had on hand:

thanks, store-manager Brandy)

Fire in the Mountain

Which, amazingly, was on the Blackfeet Reservation! Such a cool time. And, so few pics—there was no service, we were so far out there. Here’s the main stage (that’s Blood Incantation):

couldn’t have been more thrilled to get this book:

Side Quest Achieved🖤☠️Matt went deep into Blackfeet Nation for Fire in the Mountains fest, but it was all a ruse to get a copy of WE LIKE IT CHERRY into @sgj.bsky.social's hands. "Heyyy I know Tenebrous! Lotta folks told me I need to read this book!"No need to butter us up, SGJ, we already❤️you.

Tenebrous Press (@tenebrouspress.bsky.social) 2025-07-30T15:42:40.741Z

And here’s the panel:

only talk I’ve done where kayakers were paddling up to listen from behind
Robert Hall (a name y’all might know from my various acknowledgments), Sterling HolyWhiteMountain (might know him from the NYer), Jake Arrowtop (up and coming fiction writer), Dylan Running Crane (singer/songwriter)—a lot of Blackfeet for one snapshot. our big heads just barely, barely fit

Shirts

Thanks to everyone who showed up to @sgj.bsky.social's book tour in a KILLER ON THE ROAD / THE BABYSITTER LIVES tee! I love the photos! (Add your pix to the thread below 📷 ) KILLER/BABYSITTER tees & stickers – featuring @hagcult.bsky.social's killer art – are still in stock at threadsofdread.com ⭐

Greg Greene (@igreggreene.bsky.social) 2025-07-30T03:17:05.107Z
you might recognize a certain Lorin in all of these. as for the where of those shirts: threadsofdread.com

And, I can’t quite recall which stop this was from—it’s Rosie, who was at two of the stops—but it’s very cool:

Anyway, again: could not have been a better time. Exhausted now, but can’t even unpack—off to Texas soon, then Canada, then all the fall events get going, and they’re legion, as they always are. Hope to see some of y’all out there, either again or for the first time. Until then: keep your books open, your eyeglasses clean, and your hearts ready.

Thank you,

Stephen Graham Jones
